Once again as parents and community members we are called upon to "know they neighbour" engage in real face to face, get-to-know-you connections.
I always go back to how could we avoid these tragedies and I often am struck at how easily we miss the part we play in all the children's lives we come in contact with. How are we teaching our young? How are we nurturing them, or NOT nurturing them? Perhaps this young man experienced a multitude of daily of childhood traumas of his own, how was he counselled to heal from them? Where did this young man get passed over and how could we choose to not do this with the young & mature men in our lives. When we raise our boys to fight, not accept diversity, to be macho & tease those that aren't, and not learn how to hug, have emotions, and work through them safely and how to find healing ~ THAT is the issue i see that is the biggest disservice we extend and act ou...
t for our boys and men on a daily basis and in our homes.
May we all make better choices in the raising of our children of all genders and may we be wiser to take the risk to reach out and ASK the questions, Check-in with people in our community and families, and may we leave judgment at the door and kindness in our hearts. All stories are full of layers, most of which we may never know.
Bless the innocent that perished, challenge yourself to be the change, resist the urge to blame, and create a wave of action in your immediate circle to see these kinds of incidents cease in the most immediate kind of way.
